Work Happiness Index

Not “do you love your job?” — but whether the work environment gives you focus, autonomy, meaning, support and a sane pace.

Not scientific and not a mental-health or burnout assessment. It is a lightweight way to look at the work environment and compare notes with colleagues.

10 questions · ~2 minutes

How much does your workplace let you actually work?

Answer for a normal recent week — not your best day after vacation and not the deadline week from hell. The further right the answer, the healthier the working environment.

01 How often do you get at least two uninterrupted hours to work without meetings or constant context switching?
02 If you could cancel every meeting that does not help make a decision or move work forward, how much of your calendar would remain?
03 How freely can you make a reasonable decision in your area without a long approval chain?
04 What happens when you say “no” to work that does not fit the agreed priorities?
05 How clear is the reason behind the work you are doing right now?
06 How often do you see evidence that your work changed something for a customer, user, team or the business?
07 When you hit a serious blocker, what does your manager or team usually do?
08 What usually happens after a reasonable mistake with no major consequences?
09 How are work messages in the evening or on weekends treated?
10 What happens when you take a few days off?

Why this exists

Workplace happiness often starts somewhere less exciting than an engagement program

Focus, clear decisions, visible meaning, support with blockers and the ability to switch off after work sound less exciting than corporate wellbeing initiatives. They are also the things people experience every day.

So the result is better used as a conversation about the system: what should we protect, and what is quietly taking too much energy?
